Playing on the current economic crisis we (and many of our Lower Manhattan brothers & sisters) are facing, Brandon Stine–new friend (via Jackie @ AMP3!) and event collaborator–introduces us to RECESSION, which hit stores this month, and is only available in the New York market–to start.

While we all start to pay a little more attention to our bottom line, the good news is that it doesn’t have to mean that a good bottle of wine (or a bottle of wine, period) is out of reach! Available in 3 tasty flavors: Recession Cab Sauv (which Brandon tells us is the choice favorite), Recession Merlot, and my fav, Recession Chardonnay–these wines will compete with Trader Joe’s “Two Buck Chuck” in price (Recession retails for only $4.99 a pop), but not in quality. Recession, while cheap in cost, is superior in blend, hailing from the Central Coast of California.

To help keep this wallet-friendly line on the shelves, head to your local store to scoop up a bottle now, during its initial run.

Availability in Manhattan:

Warehouse Wines & Spirits (Broadway @ Astor Place)

The 67 Liquor Shop, UWS (67th & Columbus)

Buy Rite Wines & Spirits, Murray Hill (3rd Ave @ 28th Street)

86th Wines & Spirits, UES (86th & 2nd)

Chelsea Wine Country, Chelsea (Seventh Ave @ 16th Street)

Bulls & Bears, Battery Park (309 South End Drive)

Also proving this wine to be ahead-of-the-curve, you can skip the trek to the store entirely if you like: Recession is available ONLINE for HOME DELIVERY via Post Wine & Spirits! $4.99/bottle or $51.00/case of 12.

*And for any winos who are interested in the tasting notes on each, here is what the professionals have to say:

Recession Red is a fantastic bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s Central Coast. There is also a Chardonnay and a Merlot available for the same price. You will find the Cabernet complex, smoky, and brooding with traces of oak and tobacco, creating a structured Cabernet without excessive tannins that will pair well with any red meat and will not rip the palette right of your throat. This Cab stands up for itself on its own; with steak, lamb, or even with a bit of chocolate after dinner. The Merlot is bright and jammy with hints of raspberry and cassis—a medium-bodied red that is easy to pair with any meat or sauced-dishes. Recession White Chardonnay is lovely for its medium-toast characteristics: this Chardonnay is not over-oaked and while it exhibits racy hints of Vanilla and lemony-citrus, it will not overwhelm your taste-buds; perfect with chicken, salmon, and white-sauced pastas.

**Drink Responsibly!
