Last week, I attended Savvy Auntie’s Book Launch Party at Pranna. Some may know her as Melanie Notkin: founder of SavvyAuntie.com and creator of the popular Savvy Auntie lifestyle brand. Now, she also adds ‘Author’ to her list of titles, with the release of her first book, entitled “Savvy Auntie:The ultimate guide for cool aunts, great-aunts, godmothers, and all women who love kids,” which is clearly a precursor to many books to come.
The Savvy Auntie brand is all about a movement, a phenomenon heralded by fabulous kid-friendly women everywhere as a celebration of modern, cosmopolitan aunthood. A savvy auntie, simply put, is a woman who loves a child who’s not her own (which according to the book represents approximately 50% of American women).
The first installment is the perfect gift for the soon-to-be-auntie or newly-appointed auntie, who’s trying to get her bearings in this new role of aunthood. Recently becoming a proud Auntie myself, I can see how this would have been a helpful guide while my sister was going through all of the things that becoming a mother entails. Never before has there been a manual so detailed with the Aunt’s perspective in mind. It gives you all the tips to better understand what to expect during the 40-weeks of pregnancy, and lots of How-To’s for when your niece or nephew arrives (like how to properly hold the baby, how to ’swaddle’ the baby, and the best-of-the-best in baby gear).
If you’re an aspiring savvy auntie or know someone who is, I highly recommend this read. Buy it, here.
