"SAFE" by Rebecca Turbow: Fall/Winter 2009 Presentation
Rebecca Turbow opted for a presentation style show this season at a unique gallery tucked away on the quaint Bond Street in SoHo. Cluttered with artsy, downtown types, the gallery was also home to some unique wall installations including a racy cereal box scene (pictured below). The models (both male & female) emerged from the mezzanine and flowed through the crowd to assume their positions on various soap boxes scattered throughout the space.

2009 demonstrated a shift from Turbow’s signature ready-to-wear turquoise to shades of gray. Known for her monochromatic themes since 2005, Turbow’s eloquent pieces have developed a cult-following. The line features a range of pieces including outerwear, party dresses, intimates, smart yet casual separates and graphic t-shirts, “merging her longtime fascination with neo-futurist design and eighties-era Upper East Side prep school basics.”

Exclusive to this collection, Rebecca Turbow also introduces unisex pieces, including a vest, button-down and hooded raincoat.

And what would a fashion show be without your token “way-too-skinny” model wearing short-shorts!? (pictured above).
In all seriousness though, what I love about Turbow’s line, is that it is realistic and accessible. Sure, it has a few high-fashion embellishments here or there to enhance the fun factor, but several of her garments come in at under $300. When you can actually fathom purchasing something before it hits the rack, it makes the show all the more enjoyable.
