The Official CD Release Party for "Take Me Anywhere"
So, it’s Game Day at AMP3 and I wake up to discover that my eyes have decided to completely swell shut overnight. Fantastic. After a partially blinded trip to the ER and a few shots to my backside, the swelling subsided enough for me to “pull it off” just in time for the evening’s event. As is true in show business, the same goes for PR–the show must go on!
Marcus Goldhaber’s CD Release Event was much like “Marcus:” a very classy and entertaining affair! The night started off with a private VIP hour from 6pm – 7pm featuring Champagne & Cognac tastings by JTE Sprits which paired perfectly with delicious chocolates by Holistic Living Now. As the evening opened up to the rest of Marcus’ guests (for the 7pm – 10pm official event), Duvel Belgian Ale flowed freely from the main bar and the upstairs bar, and Chalk Artist Elmer Conception sketched guests as they mingled on the in-house 10×10 antique chalk board.

Marcus graced the crowd with 2 sets, one at 7:30pm and then a second at 9:30pm, where he revealed tunes from his new album, “Take Me Anywhere,” which will be made officially available on iTunes and CDbaby as of November 25th, 2008. Here, Marcus will be introduced as a songwriter with 7 original songs accompanied by 10 exciting and fresh arrangements of tasty standards such as “No Moon At All,” “I Fall In Love Too Easily,” “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening,” and “Look For The Silver Lining.”

The evening was held at the newly opened, Catch 22, in the flatiron district, which is a 1940’s-inspired cocktail lounge filled with World War II memorabilia. The space includes army helmets, manual cash registers, framed war stories, and an antique foosball table, all of which connote a very different time that is reflected in some of the traditional jazz standards that Marcus sings.

The night was capped off with gift bags for all, featuring the other sponsors of the evening: Tablet Hotels, Hot House Magazine and Origins, as well as a giveaway of a Samsung MP3 Audio Player and a private cooking class with Veronica Winsch of Holistic Living Now.

As I wandered home after a fully-executed event, en route to meet up with friends for some late night dinner (including my bestest friend visiting from Halifax, Ryan, who was on the front lines of this very odd day), I spot Penn Badgley and Blake Lively, a real life couple who also play an on-again, off-again couple on the CW’s Gossip Girl (aka my guilty TV pleasure of 2008). To my surprise, they roll on into Lyric Diner – one of our regular haunts and we ended up sitting in the booth next to them, watching Blake swoosh her lettuce & tomato around her plate. It was cool to see them in such a casual setting–they’re cute!
It was another one of those really bizarre New York day’s that reminds you that anything can happen in a New York minute, or in my case a “blink” (or lack there of) of an eye.
