Pre-Screening Event for Sand Shades (This Friday)

On January 1st, 2008–the first day of a brand new year–I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Chitra Neogy on my direct flight from Halifax to New York. After a bizarre series of seat changes that took place on the plane, Chitra & I ended up seated next to each other in the first row. Fully intent on talking to nobody on this flight (as I had a “late” night the evening prior, given that it was New Years Eve), I was prepared for a delicious cat nap for my journey back to the city. Chitra had me at “may I have a glass of red please,” which seemed like a stunning idea to me at the time, and from there, we chatted our entire trip back and have not looked back since.

Today, nearly 10 months later, I finally have the honor of looping you in on the idea that got us so excited during our initial meeting…

This Friday, October 24th, a Pre-Screening Event for the new film “Sand Shades,” written & directed by my friend, Manoshi Chitra Neogy, and produced by my new friend, Christine Janssen, will be held at The Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (721 Broadway @ Waverly Place).

Chitra, who doubles as a film professor at NYU, is known for her cutting edge, non-traditional ways of self-expressionism, and will be introducing her newest project that so powerfully challenges the predictable nature of filmmaking.

Sand Shades is a feature-length film that will be shot around the globe, and will tell the story of one woman with two perspectives: she who stays, and she who goes, culminating in a story of inspiration and empowerment for women (and men) everywhere.

With this, Chitra is inviting us all to be a part of something that is the first of it’s kind: this film will be Produced by The Citizens of The World (literally). What does that mean exactly? Well, come out to the reception on Friday to see for yourself how you can have the opportunity to get involved in this unique and fulfilling project.

Moral of the story: The next time you are on a crowded plane, don’t assume you have nothing in common with your flight mate–chances are, they have an extremely fascinating story to tell…
